Welcome to our website

Founded by Professor Gerald P. López in September 2003, the Center teams up both with low-income, of color, and immigrant communities and with diverse institutions, organizations, and people to solve social, economic, and legal problems that residents and service providers report facing. Along the way, we aim to change the way we together tackle problems, to make democratic accountability fundamental to politics, markets, and civic life, and to make equal citizenship a concrete everyday reality and not just a vague constitutional promise.

Special thanks to the JEHT Foundation and our other generous funders, to our far-flung network of pro bono experts and consultants, to NYU and its web site design team, to hundreds of volunteer interns from all across the country, to thousands of New York City residents and service providers, all of whom share our aspirations and contribute to our effectiveness.
